Welcome new Victoria Foundation staff members!

The Victoria Foundation is pleased to introduce a number of new staff members to our team.

Welcome, Amira Maddison, our new Strategic Initiatives Coordinator:

Amira joined the Foundation in 2024 after working in the non-profit sector for over 9 years. Having grown up on Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh territory in Vancouver, she began her career in the charitable sector at Galiano Conservancy Association where she developed a passion for youth engagement and environmental education.

In 2018 her career brought her to Lekwungen-speaking peoples territory of the Songhees and Esquimalt nations, in Victoria, where she continued youth facilitation roles in environmental education with Sierra Club BC, food security with LifeCycles Project Society, and Indigenous youth sport programs with Ultimate Spirit.

As Strategic Initiatives Coordinator she will be supporting the Indigenous Granting Advisory Pilot and assisting with research and collaboration at the Victoria Foundation. When not working, Amira can be found creating art, coaching the UVic Vikes Women’s Ultimate team, and enjoying the outdoors by foot, bike, and kayak.

Welcome, Teagan Dawson, our new Strategic Initiatives Associate:

Teagan grew up in North Vancouver, on the territory of the Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh Nations.

She moved to Victoria to earn a BA in Environmental Studies and Anthropology at the University of Victoria. Before joining the Victoria Foundation, she worked and volunteered for several not-for-profits in Vancouver and Victoria, including CFUV 101.9 FM, Victoria’s Campus and Community Radio Station, and Lifecycles Project Society.

She continues to be passionate about volunteering and serving her local community. In her free time, she enjoys biking around the city, baking bread, and spending time outside.

Welcome, David Foley, new Scholarship Administrator for the BC Scholarship Society:

David arrives at the Victoria Foundation from Winnipeg, where he worked at the University of Manitoba in scholarship and award administration.

David is happy to be continuing this work with the Victoria Foundation. A graduate of Wilfrid Laurier University and the University of Victoria, David is a composer and occasional performer of classical and experimental music.

Outside of work and music, David is a proud father, an avid cook and baker, and a non-elite runner.

Welcome, Matt Monteith, our new Senior Accountant:

Matt was born in Calgary and moved to the Okanagan at the age of 13. He later moved to Victoria to pursue his post-secondary education and obtained a B.A in Psychology at the University of Victoria.

Realizing that his true passion was with numbers, he entered into the Post-Degree Diploma for Accounting at Camosun and obtained his CPA designation in 2024. Before joining the foundation, Matt was as an auditor at Grant Thornton for 4 years where he worked with NPO’s and charities in the Victoria area.

In his spare time, Matt enjoys chatting with his friends about new and classic movies, hiking trails on Vancouver Island, and playing board games with his partner.
