Laurisa Leclerc is a recepient of the One World International Scholarship from the Irving K. Barber British Columbia Scholarship Society. The award allowed Risa to pursue a practicum in Nursing at the International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) in Bangladesh. We received this letter of thanks from Risa:
It is nearly beyond my imagining that I have been given both the opportunity to complete my nursing studies abroad, but also thanks to your foundation, received the generous funding in order to facilitate this opportunity. I cannot express how grateful I am for this scholarship as I have been struggling to finance my education for many years now and this amazing opportunity would likely have been out of my reach simply because of financial need. It is my hope that through making the very most of my learning in Bangladesh I will be able to “pay forward” this wonderful gift through sharing my experience, new knowledge and attitudes within my practice in such a way that I promote a greater commitment to cultural awareness and sensitivity. Additionally, I hope to build on this opportunity by participating in volunteer work abroad in the future and will be able to bring what I have learned to this arena as well. So, again, thank you so much for selecting myself, and my group from Vancouver Community College, to receive this generous scholarship that will enable us to travel abroad and experience working in healthcare in another culture.
