Get to Know Your Community Foundation
“Community vitality is the unique spirit that flourishes when people believe their community holds possibilities for everyone.” – CFC
Community foundations start with community and we’d like to help you get to know ours a little better. Over the next few months we’ll be posting profiles of the Victoria Foundation staff.
The work of our various departments fits together like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. It is these pieces, combined with the work of our volunteer Board of Directors that make the Victoria Foundation a constant supportive entity in our community.
Community Foundations of Canada is the member organization for Canada’s network of community foundations. We all work together to improve the vitality of our individual communities.
How the Victoria Foundation works
The Victoria Foundation pools charitable gifts – of all sizes – from many donors to create permanent, income earning funds that will benefit the community in perpetuity. We distribute the earnings as efficiently as we can, carefully respecting the wishes of our donors, so we can support our citizens, help charitable organizations succeed, and improve the lives of as many people as possible within our community.
Each year the Foundation strives to identify areas in need of support and makes grants to vital local registered charities operating in the realm of:
- – Arts, culture and heritage
- – Community services
- – Education
- – Environment
- – Health and Recreation
Victoria’s Vital Signs®
Victoria’s Vital Signs® is a tool that we develop and use to help identify the issue areas with the greatest challenges in our community. It is a community check-up report that evaluates the Capital Region as a place to live, learn, work and grow. It measures the health of our city and assigns grades in a number of areas that are critical to Victoria’s vitality.
Victoria’s Vital Signs® starts with an online survey that is open to the public. Now in our 6th year, we’ll launch the survey in June. Be sure to sign up for our eNews so that we can let you know as soon as it’s open. You can sign up on the homepage of our website.
