The Environment and Sustainability Fund is for you if you’re interested in supporting initiatives that protect and promote a healthy and sustainable environment in our region. The fund bolsters activities that address climate change, conserve and restore native ecosystems and biodiversity, promote a circular economy, and provide related educational programming.
What types of organizations benefit from this fund?
Your donations to the Environment and Sustainability Fund are given to environmental education and conservation groups, ocean advocacy organizations, environmental protection and restoration agencies, and many more.
Your gifts to a Community Action Fund help organizations thrive and make our community more vibrant for everyone.
Your gift to a CAF made between January and May will be distributed through the Victoria Foundation’s Community Grants Program. See a complete list of Community Action Fund grant recipients from 2023. Outside of this period, your gift be distributed through one of the Foundation’s other equitable granting initiatives.
In 2023, the Environment and Sustainability Fund granted to 25 organizations for a total of $752,197.

Donor Spotlight
As a strong climate advocate, Spencer Graham was inspired to make a gift to the Environment and Sustainability Fund because he says he’s confident the Victoria Foundation will put it to best use by pooling his donation with other donors’ gifts, then granting the funds to many organizations with the greatest need.
“Climate change is the defining issue of our time, and I felt it was important to devote more resources toward fixing it in my home community,” he said, adding that he knows his gift will help environmentalists and changemakers continue to lead climate solutions for Greater Victoria and beyond.
Impact Spotlight
XAXE ÁLE?ENE? EQÁTEL T?E MEQ, a conservation partnership between multiple Indigenous organizations, is just one of many initiatives to benefit from the gifts of donors like Spencer.
In 2022, the collaborative was given a grant, through the Habitat Acquisition Trust, to help empower Indigenous-led conservation work on WSÁNE? lands. Some activities involved monthly land restoration and stewardship events that rely on Indigenous knowledge and worldviews. The funding has helped grow and strengthen the leadership of Indigenous land stewards in Greater Victoria.
