Donor Spotlight
Donors who give to the Gender Equity Fund want to help people of all genders live life to the fullest in Greater Victoria, and ensure their gifts will go to the non-profits and charities with the greatest need in helping self-identifying women, men, trans, non-binary, and other members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. They know their gift will have the farthest reach by being pooled with other gifts, then granted strategically to a variety of organizations at the same time.
Donors can trust the Victoria Foundation to put their gifts to the best possible use, based on a deep knowledge of who these organizations are, and the strong connections it’s made with community members passionate about empowering gender diversity, and helping everyone thrive.
Impact Spotlight
Puente Theatre is one of many organizations to recently benefit from generous gifts to the Gender Equity Fund. With a strong mission for multiculturalism and gender diversity, Director Mercedes Batiz-Benet says the theatre is a “home for under-represented voices.”
With help from donors’ gifts, Puente was able to support its mandate by creating Bridging the Gap, a playwriting residency for female and gender-diverse Indigenous, Black, and People of Colour. Select playwrights participate in a paid mentorship program, along with an intensive writing residency and read-throughs with professional actors.
“It’s amazing the Victoria Foundation has a specific fund to help bridge this situation,” says Batiz-Benet. “It’s a great step in helping the community understand this is important.”
