Thank you to our sponsors!

Existing and new businesses in our community are a vital and enriching thread in the economic, social, and cultural fabric of our region. We would like to express particular recognition and gratitude to the many businesses that have embraced the opportunity to help create a vibrant, caring community for all, specifically the sponsors whose generosity makes production and promotion of the 2021 Victoria’s Vital Signs report possible.

Our thanks also go to all the individuals and organizations that helped to create this report, including those that provided data, took our survey, or helped guide and support the project, including our board and staff at the Victoria Foundation.

A Message From Our Presenting Sponsor

Coast Capital is honoured to partner once again with the Victoria Foundation as the presenting sponsor of Victoria’s Vital Signs.

Without a doubt, this past year has been a time of change and reflection. As a purpose-driven, member-owned financial cooperative and a Certified B Corporation®, we know that as we all work collectively to create a community with hope and empowerment for all, trusted sources of information and a diversity of community perspectives are more important than ever.

In order to create deep and lasting change, we need to begin by understanding what the most pressing issues are. Vital Signs tells us how our neighbours rate their livability and wellbeing and provides insights into their sense of inclusion and belonging. Few reports are able to offer this level of insight. For the second year in a row, data has been included on the unique impact of the ongoing pandemic, and this year, we can now see the data year-over-year, offering insight into areas of continued concern and recovery.

Beyond COVID-19, this has been a year of accelerated change throughout the world, inspiring elevated conversations around climate change, systemic racism, and rising debt levels. It has created the space to examine what it means to contribute to broader societal change and led many of us to pause and review our work with a new lens. As we reflect on the data in this report, what conversations will it ignite? What new perspective will it create?

Each year, Coast Capital is proud to work with the Victoria Foundation to pull out one idea and bring the data to life in a “Vital Conversation.” Over the years, we’ve explored issues such as financial wellbeing and youth mental health, going beyond the numbers to elevate the voices of those with lived experience. This year’s Vital Conversation will focus on developing a shared vision for a more inclusive economy.

Congratulations to everyone at the Victoria Foundation for your hard work and leadership in creating even more space for a diversity of voices in the survey this year. We value our partnership as we work collectively to build a better future together.
