The Duke of Edinburgh's Award in BC has over 5,000 youth enrolled in its Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards as independents or as a part of a group led by community volunteers. The Award celebrated its 50th year in 2013. Youth that achieve this Award receive High School credits, challenge themselves in community service, adventurous journeys, and in skills and physical recreation. There are youth in our community who face barriers to taking the Award, especially in the adventurous journey aspect. This initiative will give bursaries to groups hosting up to 100 local youth the opportunity to challenge themselves, contribute and be recognized fortheir achievements.
