We’ve been doing so since 1936.

The Eric & Shirley Charman Young Musicians Bursary Fund at the Victoria Foundation was established to provide music students, 25 years of age and under, at the Victoria Conservatory of Music with financial support to pursue their musical education. For over 60 years Eric Charman was the chief rallying force for the arts in Victoria. Eric and Shirley were devoted to ensuring that young musicians were supported, nurtured, and heard throughout our community. In honour of their lifelong commitment to music and emerging young musicians, their friends and colleagues established the bursary to ensure that every young person could pursue their musical dreams regardless of financial circumstance. The richness and magnitude of their legacy will distinguish this great City and the Victoria Conservatory of Music for generations to come.

About the Victoria Conservatory of Music

Founded in 1964, the Victoria Conservatory of Music (VCM) is one of Canada’s most innovative and progressive music schools. Its mission is to inspire, nurture, and enrich our community through excellence in music education, performance, and wellness. As a music school for the whole community, the VCM welcomes students of all ages and musical abilities and teaches in all musical genres. Housed in a magnificent heritage building in downtown Victoria, the VCM is considered an artistic jewel of the city and is one of Canada’s most unique musical spaces. The VCM has a satellite location in Langford and also extends its music education out into the community with its children’s outreach programs.     Send cheques to the Victoria Foundation at #200 – 703 Broughton Street, Victoria, BC, V8W 1E2. Please ensure they are made out to the Victoria Foundation. Note the designated fund in the memo line or in a cover letter.
  • Publicly Listed Securities
    Once you have an updated Donation Form for Gifts of Securities, complete the form and send a copy to your broker and to the Victoria Foundation. We will look after the rest. Please note: this form is updated annually, so please download a fresh one for each gift of securities.
