2022 Megan Newton Memorial Award Recipient

Congratulations to Jaime Johnson, who is the 2022 recipient of the Megan Newton Memorial Award.

Jaime grew up in Lethbridge, Alberta and proudly calls it home. She holds a diploma in Fashion Design and Sustainable Production and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in theatre tech/design. She is currently in her final year of a Master of Fine Arts degree in theatre tech/design with a focus on costume design. She is a lover of all things vintage, and you can often find her in the thrift shops hunting vintage treasures or sourcing for costume design projects.

Jaime works as a Costume Designer/Head of Wardrobe/Costumer/Technician for various local professional and community theatre companies. Her artistic and creative passions centre around the theme of death and her hope is that it becomes less of a taboo subject for everyday conversation. She is currently collaborating with fellow artist, Mia van Leeuwen on the follow-up to her project How to Raise a Ghost, called Giving up the Ghost, set to debut in fall 2023.

Megan Newton Memorial Fund

The Megan Newton Memorial Fund was set up by Meg’s family and colleagues to honour her spirit and resourcefulness through an award for students in theatre.

The award recipient will be registered in a post-secondary program in theatre. The student will have an interest in experimental or non-traditional forms of theatrical performance, or innovative use of theatre as a way to explore unusual or controversial topics. Preference will be given to qualified applicants who are focusing their education and/or future plans on stage management, theatre administration, and/or any aspect of theatre-related design.
